“Christmas won't be Christmas without any presents," grumbled Jo, lying on the rug.

"It's so dreadful to be poor!" sighed Meg, looking down at her old dress.

"I don't think it's fair for some girls to have plenty of pretty things, and other girls nothing at all," added little Amy, with an injured sniff.

"We've got Father and Mother, and each other," said Beth contentedly from her corner.”
― Louisa May Alcott, Little Women

One of my favorite literary Christmas scenes is the first two chapters of Little Women. The March sisters are gathered around a warm fire, complaining about being poor and having a gift less Christmas, when their beloved Marmee comes home and lifts their spirits with a letter from their father fighting in the war. The next morning they opt to forgo breakfast so that a neighboring poverty stricken family can have something warm to eat on Christmas morning. Later that evening they are rewarded with a proper Christmas dinner from their very well off neighbor, showing us that good deeds really do pay off!

Our Marmee's Hearth candle is inspired by the warm, fuzzy feeling of Christmas! Scents of holly berry, cinnamon, nutmeg, and cloved orange combine to remind us of a holiday spent with loved ones.
